So, if you don’t know by now, I am doing summer chemistry research at my college over the summer. Both my bowl piece and my bubbler, which are both glass, have gotten amazingly filled with resin. I tried cleaning it out with water, and that helped, but they were still pretty gross. I know you can use alcohol to clean them, but in my lab, to clean things we always use acetone, so I decided to bring my pipe into lab last night while no one was there and I cleaned them just using acetone. I worked perfectly! Plus, it was free and close by. What substances have you used to clean your piece with?

Acetone huh? I’m going to have to try that. Depending on the thickness of the glass, I usually just boil the piece in water with a little bit of butter. I know it sounds ridiculous but THC tends to stick to fat. Just the boiling alone usually extracts about 80% of the resin in my pieces, then I use a pipe cleaner to get the rest out.
I recently bought some Orange Chronic pipe cleaner and it left m pieces really shiny.
I used to use alcohol and salt to clean my piece, let it sit then i’d rinse it out.
Yes, actually, that is what the Orange Chronic cleaner consisted of. It was yellow colored and orange flavored, but smelled of isopropol alcohol and there was a large amount salt, which is why the bottle required you to shake it in order to “activate” the “cleaning ingrediants.
Lab grade (very pure) acetone is a good cleaner on lab glass because it’s a strong solvent and evaporates quickly. I wouldn’t take any from a lab (or take glassware to the lab) because it would be hard to explain should you get caught. Just buy some unscented/uncolored nail polish remover. Look on the label for acetone as first ingredient (some are non-acetone). After that wash with water or alcohol to remove any residues left behind from the nail polish remover (probably glycerin or similar, a harmless thickener)
91% alcohol with sea salt or just your standard table salt in a plastic baggie..shake it up real nicely and whoala clean as a whistle. Note that this works really good if u use it daily but i haven’t tried it after not cleaning my pipe for a couple days..i like a fresh pipe everytime i smoke so i can get all the smells, taste and not yesterday’s high.
Correct, the basic ingredients of any pipe cleaner are alcohol and salt. You can buy them yourself or for slightly more, purchase a cleaner. Thanks for checking out the blog and feel free to shoot me an email with any suggestions or subscribe. =)
